Squirrel Class 2020

Welcome to Squirrel Class

Spring 2 - Information for Parents and Carers

PE: This half term we will have multi skills with Toby on a Thursday afternoon.

Reading: Book bags containing reading books will be sent home each day, and changed weekly. Please support your child as much as possible with their reading at home. We will also be reading at school so remember to send their books and reading records in each day.

Phonic books and Maths Books: These should stay in your child's book bag so we can update them regularly. Please ask if you have any questions about them.

Water bottles: Please make sure your child only has water in their bottle, no squash or juice. If your child is reluctant to drink water, it can be flavoured using fresh fruit. You are welcome to send them in with a juice or squash for lunch time if you wish.

Please feel free to ask us if you have any questions or concerns.

Ms. Lazell & Mrs Goodeve
World Book Day
Our focus book for this year was 'The Last Wolf', a version of Little Red Riding Hood with a conservation theme. Thank you to all the parents and carers for making such a great effort with the children's costumes.
We enjoyed a trip to the local library as well as our book parade at the end of the day.
Hansel and Gretel
Squirrel Class had a wonderful time at Chichester College Theatre watching Hansel and Gretel. This story has really caught the children's imagination and we will make our own gingerbread house this week.
Our first gym session with Toby the P.E. coach
This half term we will be doing gym with Toby. During this session we explored different balances.
Christmas Party
Santa came to visit us during our Christmas Party. Ms Lazell told him the children had all been working hard and were very good at school. He gave us a construction set to share in class and we chatted to him before he went off to visit the other classes.
Thank you Santa!
Our Christingle Service at St Paul's Church
Our Christmas Nativity
The children did a wonderful performance of the Wriggly Nativity. It was a great way to find out about the meaning of Christmas and they worked really really hard to learn all the songs.
We were so proud of them all!
Outdoor bike session.
We are having regular sessions on the bikes outside to improve our balance, coordination and core muscle skills. So far, five children have learned to ride a two wheeler bike independently! Our sessions involve lots of sharing too!
Massage Sessions
We have now started weekly massage sessions with Squirrel Class. The children give a back massage to a friend and then they swap over and receive a massage back.
The children really seem to benefit from this social, relaxing and calming activity.
If you have any questions about this please see Ms Lazell.
Our Outdoor Learning Day
We had a really busy day outdoors. In the morning we went to find signs of Autumn in the Bishop's Palace Gardens. A special thank you to Cheryl and Nat for helping us.
Back at school we had our own sparklers!
In the afternoon we joined KS1 for nest building, making fires, roasting marshmallows, going on the monkey bars, building dens and creating our own land art. It was a fabulous day!
Breakfast and our 'Six Weeks In' Meeting
Thank you so much to all the parents' who managed to attend our special Reception meeting and breakfast this week.
