Growth Mindset

At Lancastrian we endeavour to encourage every child to develop their understanding of how they learn. Recently, we have based this on the concept of Growth Mindset as this is a proven way of improving confidence and performance. This has been embedded in all aspects of the children's learning and is on display throughout the school. Using the work of Carol Dweck and Jo Boaler (see links below) we are beginning to fully incorporate this into our learning culture.
If we have a Growth Mindset rather than a Fixed Mindset:
  • We can learn from our mistakes.
  • We can change how our brains make connections.
  • We can take more risks in our learning.
  • We can get better at things even if we find them difficult.
